Jason Richards is a national security, technology, and law enforcement executive with nearly 21 years of experience with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He most recently served as Assistant Director of the FBI’s Information Technology and Applications Data Division.

During his FBI career, Jason led both operational and technology organizations. He worked at the field and enterprise level. This experience gave him a broad view of how mission needs, technology, security, and people come together in real operating environments.

Today, Jason advises government organizations, technology companies, and senior executives. His work spans national security, law enforcement, public safety, technology, and the federal market.

He helps companies better understand government. That includes identifying mission owners, understanding acquisition paths, assessing competitors, and determining where a company’s capabilities fit. He also advises government and public safety organizations evaluating new technology and the risks that come with adopting it.

Jason’s artificial intelligence work focuses on the benefits of AI, practical governance, and responsible adoption. He advises on AI risk, human oversight, policy, accountability, and practical controls.

He brings a rare skill set shaped by operational, technical, and legal experience. At his core, he is driven by service, mission impact, and the need to deliver—consistently and effectively.

Jason founded JWR Strategies to bring that experience and judgment to organizations facing difficult technology, security, acquisition, and mission challenges. His approach is simple: understand the problem, focus on what matters, and give clients practical advice they can use.

Jason currently holds an active Top Secret security clearance.
